As a potentially historic storm barrels down on the whole of the Northeast, most of us are busy preparing ourselves and our families for what’s to come, as we should be. Beyond the obvious safety concerns — and we do urge safety above all else — many are also concerned about the inability to get to their offices and the hours of potential lost productivity. But maybe there’s a slight silver lining on the horizon.

Once we’re sure our homes and our families are safe and secure, many of us are going to face the prospect of being cut off from our colleagues and professional lives for several days. But that doesn’t mean we can’t be productive. Perhaps it’s a chance to tackle some of those professional resolutions we have on our lists, the ones that often get shuffled aside as unexpected tasks often tend to take over our day.

For the past several years, mobile recruiting has been one of those strategic initiatives corporate talent acquisition teams have had near the top of their ‘to do’ lists. I’d be surprised if it hasn’t been at least oft-discussed within your organization. And yet, a clear majority have yet to move very far forward on those initiatives. Mobile adoption numbers vary widely, but all make it clear that the corporate recruiting world still has a long way to go. What else is clear is that companies can no longer wait if they want to be competitive in an ever-increasingly cutthroat, candidate-driven market.

To some degree, the slow take up is understandable. Embarking on a true path toward total mobile recruitment adoption is no light undertaking. It requires research and resources, and is best achieved with a comprehensive strategy in place. And that can be difficult for understaffed teams with day-to-day tasks often taking precedence. But now we may have a couple of mostly interruption-free days ahead of us. It might be the perfect time to finally kickstart that mobile recruiting initiative.

Do some research.

Find out what some of the early adopters have done.

See how great your mobile apply experience can be.

Above all, be safe through this storm. But if you get some downtime, use it productively. Pour yourself a mug of hot cocoa, wrap yourself in a cozy blanket and take some time to familiarize yourself with the clear benefits of mobile recruiting and how best to get started.

Stay safe everyone.
