ICYMI Monday: Giddy-up!
This is a regular weekly feature here on the Jibe Blog, in which we uncover some of the best recruitment and technology stories from the previous week you may have missed. But first, we take a little trip in the wayback machine.
As always, we’re going to take a quick look back on this day in history before we get to our news roundup from the past week. And once again, we’re going back to the pioneer days. On April 14, 1860, the first Pony Express rider reached the West Coast, landing in San Francisco 10 days after setting off from St. Joseph, Missouri. At the time, the ability to deliver a letter or a package in 10 days was light years ahead of the standard. I wonder if there were any resumes packed into that first parcel? If so, we may consider that to have been the first, very elementary step in the advance of mobile recruiting.
Oh, and how about this? Here’s reportedly one of the first-ever job ads used to attract riders to the Pony Express: “Wanted: Young, skinny, wiry fellows not over eighteen. Must be expert riders, willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred.” Yikes. Talk about a drop-off rate.
Ok, mount up! Let’s get on to the articles…
- Buyers on the Rise
Katherine Jones, vice president of HCM technology research for Bersin by Deloitte, shares findings from Bersin’s latest research over at HR Executive. There is a plethora of great information here, so dig in. The top-line takeaway? The HCM software market is in the midst of a rebirth, if not a renaissance. Exciting times, indeed.
- Big Challenges for Recruiting Leaders – The Top 10 Upcoming Recruiting Problems
Over on ERE.net, Dr. John Sullivan once again knocks it out of the park with his breakdown of the Top 10 challenges facing recruitment right now, and in the future. He touches on some familiar themes – the need to innovate, the need for speed, the need for better metrics, etc. While familiar, it’s important to keep these issues top-of-mind given their enormity, and the pace at which they are coming at us.
- The Transformation of HR is Underway
On HR Examiner, John Sumser comes hard, as is usual and appreciated, with a look at the increasing transparency being brought to the HR function, and its impact in the profession and the organization as a whole. Good stuff here, including strong words about the need for clean data, true SaaS and thorough integration.
